In Middlesex County it was reported that an extremely aggressive cat attacked a resident's dog. Bad move on the cat's part; he died in the altercation. Subsequently, lab tests were run on the dead cat, and it was discovered that the cat was rabid. Fortunately, the dog that was attacked was up-to-date on his rabies shots, otherwise he would have lost his life also.

Rabies is caused by a virus. While, humans can carry rabies, the most common carriers of the rabies are raccoons, skunks, groundhogs, foxes, cats, bats and dogs. Remember, if you have a pet, be certain that his shots are up to date. If you pet does not have a current rabies shot and is the unfortunate recipient of a bite from a rabid animal, your pet will be put to sleep by authorities to avoid spreading rabies further.
