One Killed in Crash on I-10

A motorist was killed in a fiery crash today on the eastbound 10 Freeway in the West Adams area of Los Angeles, authorities said.

A silver Toyota Camry was speeding on the Western Avenue offramp at about 4:45 a.m. when it swerved off the road and struck the overpass, then flipped down the embankment and landed on the freeway below, California Highway Patrol officials said in a statement.

The vehicle caught fire and the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was charred beyond recognition, said Lt. Cheryl MacWillie of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

“We have to get a positive ID and that means dental records,” she said.

It was not known if alcohol was a factor.
