Ohio Supreme Court ruled yesterday in the closely watched Robinson v. Bates case. The ruling brings clarity to Ohio's position regarding medical costs incurred as a result of an accident.

Yesterday's ruling focused on whether a defendant will be allowed to introduce evidence that a plaintiff's medical carriers settled for less than the amount they were originally billed. The concern was that victims of accidents may show their damages based on the total amount billed for medical care as opposed to showing the amount the medical coverage actually paid.

It is noteworthy that not all medical carriers reduce their bills. The last thing we want to do is loose sight of the victim. At the end of the day, getting just compensation for the injured party is really what is most important.
