Mary Taylor called 911 as a result of a fight between her and her live-in partner, Dwight Jackson, that had become physical. When officers arrived, Dwight Jackson gave a verbal command to his dog, at which time the dog pounced on the officers.

Details about the incident are sketchy. It is unclear exactly what Mr. Jackson said to the dog, but it is clear that the dog attacked the officers after hearing his master's command. As a result of the attack, the officers were forced to shoot at the dog.

Details have not been released regarding the current condition of the dog, which was taken to Selden Emergency Animal Hospital. Jackson, who was arrested and charged with second-degree assault and harassment, is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Central Islip.
