Tainted Pet Food Recall Expands

Last week there were 95 brand names of pet food recalled - 53 dog food brands and 42 cat food brands. This week, the pet food manufacturer, Menu Foods, has requested that stores carrying pet food remove all of the wet pet food items, regardless of the date code, as a precautionary measure.

Animals are experiencing kidney failure and death after ingesting the tainted pet food. It is believed that the company knew of a problem for some time prior to making their public announcement. To date, the company has recalled 60 million cans and pouches of pet food. It has now been confirmed by the U.S. State Department of Agriculture and Markets that a chemical spray designed to kill rodents was discovered on Chinese wheat found in pet food.
