On July 17, the House and Senate conference committee came to an agreement on nine major items relative to product safety and legislation to protect private employees of manufacturers who report concerns they may have regarding product safety.

The Consumer Product Safety Reform Act (H.R. 4040 and S.2663) will have a whistleblower provision. It is clear the Whistleblower Protection is the most important aspect of this legislation. As noted by Stephen M. Kohn, the President of the National Whistleblower Center, " The first line of defense against dangerous manufactured goods are the workers on the factory floor... ."
