Firm Sues for $10 Million in a Defective Product Case

A lawsuit in the amount of $10 million was filed against Lynchburg-based C.B. Fleet Company on behalf of Lora Joyce Goza a resident of Texas. She suffered from acute renal failure in addition to other side effects as a result of using Fleet Phospho-soda prior to a medical procedure. Lynchburg-based C.B. Fleet Company is a large manufacturer of health, medical and pharmaceutical products.

Apparently, while in Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas she was given a bowel preparation solution, which is a common practice in and off itself. However, in this case, the patient was taking blood pressure medication, which had a negative reaction due to combining the medication with the Fleets Phospho-Soda Bowel Prep solution. As a result, Ms. Goza suffered permanent kidney damage and eventually kidney failure. As her attorney, Jeffrey Breit, put it "Instead of warning physicians and patients like Ms. Goza about the dangers of their product, they chose to ignore the vast amount of information that indicated major problems so they could keep meeting their sales goals. Their negligence has brought immense pain and discomfort to Ms. Goza and will almost certainly shorten her life by several years" said her attorney. This lawsuit is expected to be the first of thousands in this defective product case.
