The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) hasrevealed that there is a safety review is ongoing with respect to Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF) Blockers.

There have been more than 30 reports made to the FDA over a 10 year period of time. Those reports are leading FDA to believe that there may be a link between TNF and Lymphoma in addition to other cancers in children and young adults.

Theconsumers who developed cancer were ages 18 or less and had been taking the medication to treat Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA), Crohn’s disease or other diseases. Fifty percent of the cancers reported were lymphomas, which is a cancer of the cells in the immune system. Long-term studies are needed to get definitive answers. "The FDA urges both healthcare professionals and patients to report side effects from the use of Remicade, Enbrel, Humira, and Cimzia, to the FDA's MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program."
