In March 2005, Billy Joe Johnson, 48, of Bevinsville in Floyd County, Kentucky, was arrested. Johnson was charged with assault, murder, kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment in the death of Michael Stone, 27. Michael was found shot to death on August 4, 2003.

Now, Mr. Johnson, who is already facing the above-referenced charges in state court, has been sentenced to an additional five years in federal prison. The latest sentence comes after Johnson admitted that he staged auto accidents in addition to a home fire for the insurance money. Johnson is one of eight Floyd County residents indicted in 2006 for defrauding insurance companies.

According to the indictment, Johnson and the others staged automobile accidents involving multiple vehicles. They lied about injuries and how the incident occurred and at times took a cut of the insurance money.
