Congress Addressing Teen Driver Deaths

On June 6 a bipartisan resolution was introduced in Congress that would establish the third week in October as National Teen Driver Safety Week. The numbers related to this issue are staggering. In 2005 alone 7,500 drivers between 15 and 20 were involved in fatal car crashes in the United States. The majority of these accidents can be attributed to inexperienced drivers who have a tendency to speed, tend to not use seat belts and fail to notice hazards.

Congressmen Dent said "This resolution designates a week where intensive programming will be used to encourage teens to drive more safely." In the United States, the rate of car crashes involving teenage drivers are four times that of drivers over the age of 25, according to Senator Casey. Those are definitely numbers that deserve our attention. Also in support of a National Teen Driver Safety week is The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and State Farm Insurance Companies ®).
